While we’re Fusion/Wires-X focused, we’re all interested in learning more about the many, varied aspects of our hobby!
We have been running a weekly "net" over the air on the Wolf Pack Repeater System, and on the Wires-X Room #28941, which is also mirrored on the YSF reflector "US-WolfDen", and also the Echolink Node "WO1VES-R." for more information on the Wolf Pack repeater system, please visit www.wo1ves.com
The net has been established to provide a location where hams can turn to with technical questions, or for those hams who are interested in learning more about System Fusion and other technical aspects of the hobby. See the Calendar for the most up to date days and times for the net, but these are usually on Sundays.
When a station transmits the words "Net Comment," the NCS will hold the net and allow the station to enter their comment. This way the stations that just want to listen and learn can do so. It also permits and encourages stations with questions to feel free to ask those questions! This approach is sort of a round-robin approach where all can contribute. By taking the round-robin approach, the nets move along at the appropriate pace, and we are able to take deep dives into a topic together. You should check us out when you can!
Our TechNet is slightly different than most “traditional” nets, while the beginning is rather traditional – where the Net Control Station (NCS) will open the net, ask for check-ins, and log the checkins. Next, the NCS will direct each station to make their opening remarks and hand the “floor” directly to the next ham in line on the check-ins list. We find this approach speeds the checkin process, and leaves the most time to devote to the purpose of the net; discussion technical topics.
Often times we will have a pre-determined topic to talk about, and introduce over the air. Once the initial opening remarks “round” is complete, we can start the discussion. Here is where the format starts to take an even further departure from “normal”; The NCS will allow the presenter to discuss the topic, and instead of taking a linear one-after-the-other approach to the net, folks are encouraged to interject and ask questions at any time.
The New England Fusion Group is a non-profit association of licensed amateur radio operators, membership which is open to ALL licensed amateurs, who would like to support a relatively new mode of communication amongst other ham radio operators. Through multiple technical committees, we will provide support by developing and or organizing training materials to assist operators in the construction, implementation, and operation of the System Fusion C4FM radio communication systems including internet-based linkage of those radios. In addition to intrinsic training support, we can provide financial support to N.E. system operators when needed. Our membership driven club will have a virtual presence to support the entirety of the New England region.
